In the summer of 2023, we asked six people – a folklore researcher, a Karelian activist, a sociolinguist, a literature researcher, a singer and a theater director – to tell us briefly what the Kalevala looks like from their point of view.
It turned out that the Kalevala is, for example, a treasure chest, a source of pain, a work of art and an instrument of oppression. Simultaneously and separately.
